Signal Park, London
Our Projects
Overview
Signal Park is part of the impressive first phase of the shared ownership development by Lovell Partnerships and Guinness Homes in Tolworth, London. The £58.5m development has transformed 11 acres of formerly vacant government offices into a hugely beneficial space for the local community. The site features three ten-storey blocks, which link across at the lower level.
The mixed-use development offers 221 affordable homes, in one, two and three-bedroom apartments, with a commercial space and creche. PRP Architects consciously designed the build to maximise wildlife and plant biodiversity, for a development that benefits all in the local area. Vobster Architectural worked with Taylor Maxwell to manufacture and supply wet cast Bathstone for entrance features, cills, band courses, window surrounds and copings.
Concept to Completion
Vobster Architectural’s wet cast Bathstone connects the buildings through a thin banding and coping that runs along under the mansard roof and defines the higher roofs on the front elevation, as well as along the low-level sections. The cast stone adds visual interest around select windows and entranceways and along with the chosen cream mortar, brings contrast with the darker tones of the brickwork for an overall striking appearance.
Our team consulted with the architects to ensure that their vision was able to be facilitated. We then calculated and designed the stone support and restraint fixings that would be needed. The same designs were then able to be replicated across all three residential blocks, adding efficiencies within the planning and construction process. Each stone was meticulously planned and mapped for its individual location, with the stone installers using our plans to assist with the install.
Lovell Partnerships worked alongside Guinness Homes with the main aim to ‘tackle housing inequalities’. Signal Park is 100% affordable housing, with 21 EV charging points installed on site to encourage sustainable living. The site won the Silver Award in the ‘Considerate Constructors Scheme’ for successfully delivering on their aims and providing a valued scheme to the area.
Signal Park was also Lovell’s first scheme to include a ‘Whole Life Carbon Assessment’, where any carbon hotspots were able to be identified so these can be reduced in the future. The assessment found that Signal Park outperformed the whole life carbon targets set by Morgan Sindall (Lovell’s parent company) by 314kgCO2/m2.
The development demonstrates how environment and community conscious construction can be actualised. Signal Park has successfully enriched the local area with affordable, sustainable housing and we were thrilled to manufacture and supply cast stone to the project.
